FAQ

HEPA is a High Efficiency Pleated Air filter with small tightly pleated media and high MERV ratings. HVAC is Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning, the pleats are usually wider and wire reinforced for stability. The MERV rating is lower.

A MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value) is a measure of how effective an air filter is. Filters with higher ratings can prevent finer particles from getting through than filters with lower ratings. An example of a lower merv rating filter (MERV 1-4) would be a simple throwaway fiberglass or synthetic panel filter. An average filter (MERV 8) could be a pleated filter with cotton/polyester blend material. An above average filter (MERV 9-12) could be bag or box type filters that that may contain pockets for better particle filtration. Filters with a MERV rating of 13 or above are commonly found in medical institutions for supreme filtration.

Filter foam is a reticulated foam that has open cells to allow air or liquid through it.

This depends on the type of filter you have. If you have a fiberglass air filter, you'll want to replace it roughly every month or so. If you have a pleated air filter, you'll want to replace it roughly every three months, depending on use. Please review your owners manual or consult with the manufacturer or supply representative if you are unsure of the replacement schedule.
